Dog Sporting Activities – Mutts Welcome: Disc dogs and Dock Diving

Whatever your dog likes to do, there is a sporting event, they will enjoy. Some dogs and their humans love competition. For mixed breeds and unregistered dogs, this can be a problem. Yet, if your dog is active and enjoys competing in something he or she loves, you might find an outlet for that fetish and energy. One of the following sports may be ideal for your dog.

Disc Dogs

Does your dog love to chase and catch a Frisbee or disc? Does it enjoy leaping into the air to grab hold of even your wildest throw? Can it and you repeat this for hours on end without boredom? If you can answer yes to these questions, Disc Dogs is the right sport for you and your pet.

As the name indicates, Disc Dogs involves chasing and catching a disc. These are individual and team sporting events. You have different types. The most common is Toss & Fetch. You throw the disc. Your dog catches and returns it. It is about amount successfully completed, skill and other factors.

The most popular event in Disc Dogs is not Toss & Fetch or the distance events. It is Freestyle. In Freestyle, your dog performs to music. You create a routine. This must include a variety of leaps, twists, vaults and flips. The judges mark according to line, speed and choreography.

Disc Dog requires an energetic dog. It does not matter what the breed. What counts is the love of the sport. You need a canine who is adores his or her disc. It is a great sport to encourage close interaction between you and your dog. It is also an inexpensive sport. You may have to pay to attend a competition, but the cost of discs is less expensive than the accoutrements and requirements for other canine events.

Dock Jumping

Dock Jumping or Jetty Diving appeals to the water lover. If you cannot keep your dog out of the water, this is a great sport. If your pet will chase any thing you throw into the water this may be for you. If your dog will run and leap off a dock to fetch a toy a ball or any object, this sport is a good match for you and your dog.

The rules for dock diving are simple. You toss an object off the end of a dock or platform into a pool of water. The dock is some 40 feet and rises at least 2 feet above the water. Your canine duck runs along the dock and throws him or her self into the water. He or she then retrieves the object. The winner of the event is the dog who has the longest distance.
Dock Jumping requires teamwork. Your dog will need to be in great physical shape. Dock Jumping is good exercise for your dog. It is also inexpensive. In winter, practice may present a problem in some countries. There is always snow drift jumping. As with all good sporting events, dock jumping provides you and your dog to bond. You get to travel. You also get to meet great people and lots of dogs and humans committed to their dogs and the sport.
