DOG HEROES

Throughout the ages, canine jobs have helped mankind. As dogs carry out these various canine jobs, sometimes special things happen. Some of these events can be attributed to "heroes". Who is a hero?

We almost instantly think of people as heroes but the truth is animals can be heroes as well. All types of animals have been heroes but none can compare to man's best friend, the dog.

While performing canine jobs, dogs have historically been seen as heroes, especially in war. They were first recognized for their bravery and heroism in World War 1. Since then, people have truly recognized them for what they are worth - recognized, rescued, trained and cared for by man.

Each year, dogs are recognized for acts of worthiness and heroism and various awards like the "Dog Hero of the Year Award." are given.

Dog heroes can be seen every year. Sometimes they are performing their canine jobs. At other times, they are just relaxing. Whenever there is a disaster, a dog may be an eventual hero.

Think about it.. Dogs save adults as well children in all sorts of dire situations like drowning, fire, tornados, burglaries, and even in a large tragedy like 9/11. The images of heroic dogs locating lost bodies under rubble and debris at ground zero, or finding possible survivors smashed the hearts of many Americans.
